I really enjoyed reading this book, it was very interesting and was generally an easy read. The author was very descriptive which allowed me to picture the characters and setting of the book. I really liked the last chapter and I felt it did a good job of summarizing the rest of the book. One part that stood out for me was when one of the parents said that the 8th grade graduation was such a big deal because it is the only time many of the students will graduate. This means that many of the students will either not pass, or drop out of high school. Since many of the kids in the book come from broken families and rough home life, it shows how family support and life outside of school contributes greatly to a students success in the classroom. Without people supporting and pushing you along the way, it is hard to set goals and work hard to reach them.
